New York – Children’s Aid Society President & CEO Richard R. Buery, Jr. joins 31 other non-profit leaders from throughout New York State as part of the Attorney General’s Leadership Committee for Nonprofit Revitalization. The committee will work through the end of 2011 to reduce unnecessary regulatory burdens and associated costs on non-profits while working to revamp overall accountability requirements. A graduate of Yale Law School, Mr. Buery will contribute the perspective of The Children’s Aid Society, one of New York City’s leading children services agencies, and extensive experience establishing and managing nonprofit organizations to the subcommittee charged with modernizing existing nonprofit regulations.
“This is a unique opportunity to help improve the effectiveness and efficiency of nonprofit organizations throughout the state and to help shape policies that will guide organizations in these modern times,” said Buery. “I am honored to be a part of such an important and far-reaching committee, and I look forward to working to raise the bar for non-profits as well as minimize some of the costs to provide important services to New Yorkers.”
The Attorney General has announced that he would work with the state's nonprofit, business and labor communities to help eliminate unnecessary bureaucracy that has long plagued nonprofits, such as redundant audits, overlapping reporting requirements, and delays in processing and payment of contracts.
The Attorney General’s newly formed Committee will focus on making recommendations through three subcommittees on:
- Reducing regulatory burdens and more effectively addressing regulatory concerns;
- Modernizing New York's nonprofit laws to eliminate outdated requirements and unnecessary burdens while strengthening accountability; and,
- Enhancing board governance and effectiveness, including recruiting and training nonprofit board members.
